The detergent powders currently sold on the market are mostly phosphorus-containing detergent powders, composed of a variety of chemical raw materials such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate, and fluorescent whitening agents.
Many people like to use washing powder to wash fruits, vegetables, meat and even tableware, that it has a disinfection and cleaning effect. In fact, sodium alkyl benzene sulphonate contained in laundry detergent is a toxic compound, and long-term exposure is harmful to the liver. A medical unit in Shanghai conducted liver, gallbladder and blood biochemical tests on 12 professional laundry women. They have been engaged in professional laundry work for more than 10 years. The results of the examination showed that: The livers of eight of them suffered from varying degrees of damage; gallbladder lesions were found in six persons and were abnormally mixed with leukocytes; 10 were significantly older than the same age.
Sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate also has significant irritation to infant skin. According to inspections, when washing infant diapers with synthetic washing powder, the residue of sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate on a diaper averaged 15 mg due to insufficient washing. The baby's skin is delicate. After contact with the residue, it not only causes allergic reactions, but also causes gallbladder enlargement, elevated white blood cells and other symptoms. Sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate is particularly harmful to infants with impaired liver organ development.

The main components of synthetic detergents are surfactants and various types of detergent auxiliaries, such as complexing agents, brighteners, softeners, antistatic agents, and the like. The role of the surfactant is to remove the oily material from the garment by its hydrophilic and lipophilic properties. Commonly used surfactants are sodium alkylbenzene sulfonates made from petroleum products. According to their different chemical structures, sodium alkyl sulfonate can be divided into ABS and LAS. They have good detergency and foaming power. However, biodegradation of ABS is very difficult. Accumulation of foam in rivers, lakes and seas will cause environmental pollution, and some countries have banned the use of it. LAS is almost the same as ABS in terms of detergent detergency, but its biodegradation rate is fast, no toxic intermediates are produced during the degradation process, and there is no accumulation tendency. Phosphate esters are very important anionic surfactants and act primarily as antistatic, emulsifying, defoaming and thickening agents in synthetic detergents. Among the detergent builders, it is worth mentioning that phosphates, which have the effect of softening hard water, also have the effect of helping to wash.
Detergents are discharged into the natural environment through domestic sewage, thereby affecting the environment. In water, because detergents generate large amounts of foam in water, they interfere with the contact between water and air, resulting in reduced dissolved oxygen in the water and adverse effects on aquatic organisms. At the same time, phosphorus in detergents is algae, which provides important phosphorus nutrients for aquatic plants, causing them to multiply in large quantities or even overdose, depleting the dissolved oxygen in the water, causing fish to die of oxygen deficiency. At the same time, the death of algae in the water after the death of the algae will produce toxins and further damage the ecological environment. We call this process eutrophication. At present, many lakes, reservoirs and other water bodies in China are in an eutrophic state.
